Terms of service

Shopping Angel lets you build shopping lists and compares the supermarkets around you by how many of your items they carry and what the total would cost. Prices come from two sources: receipts uploaded by users and read by an AI model, and public price lists published by the retailers themselves. Store locations come from OpenStreetMap and the product catalogue from Open Food Facts; the attributions required by their licences are on the About page.

You need an account with a confirmed email address to use the service. You must be at least 18 years old. Keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what is done with your account until you tell us it has been compromised. You can change your password or delete your account at any time from your profile page.

You agree not to:

• upload receipts that are forged, altered, or that you have no right to share;
• upload images that are not receipts, or that show other people's personal data;
• access the service by automated means, scrape it, or overload it;
• attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours, or to interfere with the service's security;
• use the service for any purpose that is unlawful or that harms other users, retailers or us.

We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these rules.

When you upload a receipt you confirm that you may lawfully share it and you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to store it, have it read by an automated system, have the reading reviewed by an administrator, and publish the prices, products and shop information derived from it. Published prices are anonymous: they are not attributed to you and stay in the price database even if the upload or your account is later deleted. You keep every other right in your photos. We may refuse or remove any upload without giving a reason.

Accepted receipts earn credits that unlock a larger number of shopping lists. Credits have no monetary value, cannot be transferred or exchanged, and the thresholds, the rewards and the scheme itself may be changed or withdrawn at any time. Credits already earned are not taken back when a receipt is later removed.

Prices are crowdsourced and imported: they may be wrong, out of date, valid only for a promotion, or specific to one shop. A comparison is an estimate, not an offer, a guarantee or a price commitment by any retailer. Always check the price at the shelf or the till. The supermarket chains named in the service are not affiliated with Shopping Angel; their names and marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify where a price was observed.

Shopping Angel is provided free of charge and "as is", as a personal project. We do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or complete, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. If we shut the service down we will try to give reasonable notice.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from reliance on a price or comparison shown by the service, from its unavailability, or from the loss of data you uploaded. Nothing in these terms limits liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or the rights you have as a consumer under Italian and EU law, including Legislative Decree 206/2005 (Consumer Code).

You can delete your account whenever you want from your profile page; the privacy policy explains what is deleted and what is kept. We can suspend or close an account for a breach of these terms, for security reasons or if we discontinue the service, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer resident in Italy, disputes belong to the court of your place of residence or domicile, as the Consumer Code provides; the mandatory rules of the country where you live continue to apply. In any other case the courts of Italy have jurisdiction. The Italian text of these terms prevails over any translation.

We may update these terms; the effective date at the top tells you which edition applies. Material changes will be notified when you next sign in and require your acceptance before you continue.
